Credit Card Surcharge

1. Open the Back Office.
2. Click the Maintenance icon.
3. Click Sales Tax Maintenance.
4. Select an empty slot from the Tax drop down.
5. Enter a Description. For example, Credit Card Surcharge.
6. Enter a No Tax Under Value. Amounts less than this amount will not be taxed.
7. Click the Tax Scheduling button to configure a tax schedule. See Tax Scheduling for more information on configuring a tax schedule.
8. Select a Tax Calculation Method:
   • The Flat Percentage tax option is used when the tax rate is a constant percentage. Clicking the Edit Percentage button allows the user to enter the Tax Percent and rounding options. See Edit Tax Percentage for more information on configuring Flat Percentage taxes.
   • The Table tax option allows the user to define a tax table to use when calculating tax. Click the Edit Table Data button to configure the tax table. Users may need to enable the Use Alternate Calculation option if taxes are not calculating correctly. See Edit Table Data for more information on configuring tax tables.
9. Select a Tax Type:
   • USA (Exclusive) taxes are added after the total sale amount has been calculated.
   • VAT (Inclusive) taxes are included in the price.
10. Click the Text Tax button to display a tax table based on the current tax information. See Test Tax for more information.
11. Select the Exclude From Displayed Total option to exclude the surcharge from the sale total.
12. Select the Include In Alternate Displayed Total option to include the surcharge in the Alternate Displayed Total which appears on the printed receipt and on the Front End terminal screen. If this option is selected, specify VAT tax settings.
    • Use Item Price For VAT forces the credit card surcharge calculate based on the item price, including VAT.
    • Forgive With Smart VAT forgive the credit card surcharge tax when Smart VAT is in effect.
      

Enable the credit card surcharge on any items in Item Maintenance that the tax will be applied to. See Item Maintenance or Mass Attribute for more information on enabling taxes on items.

Configure any non-credit card media to forgive the tax created above. This will allow the system to display two different totals, a cash total with no surcharge and a credit total with a surcharge. See Media Maintenance > Media Forgives Tax for more information on forgiving taxes.

Configure terminal screens to include an Alternate Total informational control. See Terminal Screens Maintenance > Adding an Information Control for more information on adding controls to terminal screens.

Configure an Alt. Total Description to be displayed on the Front End and the printed receipt. See Settings 3 for more information on configuring an Alt. Total Description.
