Offline Mode

While in Offline Mode, a terminal cannot communicate with the server, but can communicate with the backup server. Users can configure the software to automatically enter Offline Mode when a connection is unavailable. The Front End Database Recovery Mode can be set globally in Settings 4 and per terminal in General Info 1.

ClosedWhile in Offline Mode
  • The background on the Front End will read "Offline Mode"
  • Checks can be rung up and settled
  • Orders can be printed to the kitchen only if the printer or VDU was not being controlled by the server
  • Credit cards will be authorized in Offline Credit Card Mode. Card/Sale info is saved and processed at a later time.
  • Front End is forced into Offline Credit Card Mode
  • The next check number is retrieved from the Backup Server

General

  • Cannot use Quick Sign On feature (General Info 1 > Enable Quick Sign On)
  • Clock in/out - employee is considered to be clocked in at all times. Time punches are not recorded.

  1. Remove the server from the network by unplugging the Ethernet cable.
  2. Restart the Front End at all terminals beginning with the backup server.
ClosedHow to Restore From Offline Mode
  1. Shut down the Front End at all terminals, shutting down the backup server last.
  2. Replace the server on the network by plugging the Ethernet cable in.
  3. Restart the Front End at all terminals, beginning with the backup server.
    • Process any credit cards that were authorized while offline.
    • Edit any employee time punches for the offline period.

If the server required replacement or reloading of the OS, be sure to have FPOS installed at the server, and the store’s data in place before reintroducing the server to the network.
