The Scale tab is used to interface a scale with the FPOS software allowing items to be priced by weight.
 Scale Options Explained
Scale Options Explained
            Scale Type

The type of scale that will be interfaced with the software. Select a Scale Type from the drop down.
Comm Port

The communication port that the scale will interface with.
Baud Rate

The transfer bit rate. This setting is unique to the Scale Type selected from the drop down. The documentation that accompanies the scale should be referenced for the recommended baud rate setting.
Parity

The parity setting of the serial port. Parity is a method of detecting errors in transmission that when used with a serial port, allows the serial port to detect errors passed by the scale. The documentation that accompanies the scale should be referenced for the recommended parity setting.
Bits

The number of data bits to transfer at one time. This setting will be unique to the Scale Type. The documentation that accompanies the scale should be referenced for the recommended data bit setting.
Stop Bits

The number of stop bits transmitted at at one time. Stop bits are sent at the end of every character to allow the hardware to detect the end of a character. The documentation that accompanies the scale should be referenced for the recommended stop bit setting.
Flow Control

Also known as "handshaking." This controls the flow or speed of the data transfer to prevent the device from being overrun with excessive data. This option is only for the NCI 6720 Serial scale.
None
Disables Flow Control.
Hardware
Uses DTR/DSR to specify whether or not data transmission is permitted.
Software
Responds to special characters to either start or stop the transmission of data.
Unit of Measure

Select Pounds, Kilograms, Ounces, or Grams.
Decimal Places

All scaleable items will be added to the check with the selected number of decimal places. The selection made in this field should match the number of decimal places being displayed by the scale (configured in the scale's settings, consult the scale manual for additional information).
 Notes
Notes
The option Item is scalable must be flagged in Item Maintenance in order to sell items by weight.
