The MSR tab is used to configure the Magnetic Stripe Reader (MSR) interface. The MSR can be used to process Credit Cards, Employee ID Cards, and Gift Certificates.
MSR Type
The type of MSR that will be interfaced with the software. If Omron Serial or Serial MSR is selected configure the settings listed below:
Comm Port
The communication port that the MSR will interface with.
Baud Rate
The transfer bit rate. This setting is unique to the MSR Type. The documentation that accompanies the MSR should be referenced for the recommended baud rate setting.
Parity
The parity setting of the serial port. Parity is a method of detecting errors in transmission that when used with a serial port, allows the serial port to detect errors passed by the MSR. The documentation that accompanies the MSR should be referenced for the recommended parity setting.
Bits
The number of data bits to transfer at one time. This setting will be unique to the MSR Type. The documentation that accompanies the MSR should be referenced for the recommended data bit setting.
Stop Bits
The number of stop bits transmitted at at one time. Stop bits are sent at the end of every character to allow the hardware to detect the end of a character. The documentation that accompanies the MSR should be referenced for the recommended stop bit setting.
Non XML Format
The Non XML Format option allows the card swipe to be processed in a non XML format and is designed specifically for the IDTech SecureKey MSR. Check the Non XML Format box if your device is in Non XML Format.
Manufacturer Site Hyperlink
The manufacturer site hyperlink is shown here, this is where the manufacturer programming utility can be downloaded. http://www.idtechproducts.com/download/doc_download/173-demo-software.html
OPOS Settings
To view and edit the OPOS Settings, OPOS must be selected in the MSR Type drop down.
Device Name
The type of MSR that will be interfaced with the software. Select from the IDTech SecureMag USB HID or Manual:
IDTech SecureMag USB HID
Selecting the IDTech SecureMag USB HID from the Device Name drop down will populate the Device Name field and select the Encrypted check box, by default.
Manual
The Manual option allows users to use any MSR that supports OPOS. Selecting the Manual option from the Device Name drop down will require the user to enter a device name in the Device Name field. See Finding a Device Name below for more information on finding the device's name. Select the Encrypted check box to transfer data using End to End Encryption.Finding the Device Name
- Install the device's OPOS driver .
- Open Registry Editor.
- Navigate to the registry entry for the device. For example, HKLM\Software\OLEforRetail\ServiceOPOS\MSR\IDTECH_SECUREMAG_USBHID, where IDTECH_SECUREMAG_USBHID is the device name.
- In the System Devices > MSR tab, enter the Device Name as it is written in Registry Editor.
