Setting Up Price Embedded Barcodes

The Scanner tab allows for Barcode scanners to be connected to the software. This allows the Front End to scan barcoded items using either a serial or keyboard wedge scanner and UPC-A or EAN-13 barcodes. Users must first set up Scanners in System Devices, then assign barcodes to items in Item Maintenance.

  1. Open the Back Office.
  2. Click Settings.
  3. Select System Devices.
  4. Click the Terminals tab.
  5. Click the Scanner tab.

  6. Select the type of scanner you are installing from the Scanner Type drop down.
  7. Select a port number from the Comm Port drop down.
  8. Select the device's Baud Rate from the drop down. The documentation that accompanies the scanner should be referenced for the recommended baud rate setting.
  9. Select the device's Parity from the drop down. The documentation that accompanies the scanner should be referenced for the recommended parity setting.
  10. Enter the maximum number of bits to be transferred at one time in the Bits field. The documentation that accompanies the scanner should be referenced for the recommended bit setting.
  11. Enter the maximum number of stop bits to be transferred at one time in the Stop Bits field. The documentation that accompanies the scanner should be referenced for the recommended stop bit setting.
  12. Enabled the Don't Expand UPC-E (6 DIgit UPC's) to 12 Digits to prevent the system from expanding six digit barcodes prior to searching the Item file.
  13. Select how you want the check digit to be read in the Price Embedded Barcodes section of the Scanner tab.
    • Price Check Digit is the First Digit of the Item Price uses the first digit in the barcode as the check digit to verify the barcode's validity.
    • Ignore Price Check Digit uses no check digit.
  14. Click File > Save.

How to Assign Barcodes to Items in Item Maintenance

  1. From the Back Office, open Item Maintenance.
  2. Create a new item or select an item to modify that will be scanned using price embedded barcodes.
  3. In the Item UPC field enter in the Item UPC number digits only.
    • If using EAN-13 barcodes, and the barcode is 2054321007611, the Item UPC will be 5432.
    • If using UPC-A barcodes, and the barcode is 200338912345, the Item UPC will be 0338.
  4. Once you have configured the item, click File > Save.
